She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurer’s Edition, tells the story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the unexpected death of her younger sister, Tilly. Though the Evans sisters were not especially close, as of late, Agnes is greatly affected by the loss. As Agnes was searching through Tilly’s personal effects, she stumbled upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook. In an attempt to get to know Tilly posthumously, Agnes recruits an experienced Dungeon Master named Chuck Biggs to help her, and she catapults herself into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. Now straddling both the real and her new imaginary game world, Agnes comes face to face with her doubts, difficult trials, harrowing victories, and blood-thirsty cheerleaders. And, as she plays the game more and more, she starts to see the spirit of her sister at the edges of her perception. All in all, Qui Nguyen’s Young Adventurer’s Version of She Kills Monsters is a surprisingly sweet tale of friendship, loss, and acceptance, full of 90’s pop culture references, exciting fight scenes, and the message that despite the monsters in your way, you can find a way to slay them.
PG-13 Rating: Though JHS is performing the "Young Adventurer's Version" of the production, this show contains topics and themes that may be a little too mature for the youngest of our adventurers. She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition contains mild language, sexual innuendos, an intense bullying scene, and mature themes: parental discretion is advised for children and students under the age of 13.
